"silent hill: downpour" first impression

slammed as a bad game, silent hill: downpour is a game that i've waited for almost a year due to it's delayed release.

i've had a 2months hiatus from PS3 gaming due to the introduction of SWTOR by myself. leveling, crafting, bike riding, running from enemies took up plenty of RL time. and obviously there was no PS3 in the market that caught my eye.

i traded in Saints Row the Third for a copy of RE: Operation Raccoon City + Silent Hill Downpour. the former, was indeed a mindless but relatively good game, and so  i think i can play that til the latter 2 games, but SWTOR took all my time, both a good and a bad thing.

expectations are always high for sequels and follow up series of great titles, no difference in the movies. can this beat that etc. but all newer versions should be looked as an individual piece, with some reference to the previous masterpiece, or disaster. by that, we will enjoy the game to its uniqueness, and the artwork created by the new team of developers, and too honor and never forget how great the previous was.

2day will mark another milestone, of me getting my Alienware X51, also slammed by DIY PC fanatics. Silent Hill Downpour is not a bad haircut that u need to get use to, rather it's pretty much a nice reminder of old classic genre of Interactive Movie Adventure/Horror (Actor Video Horror) PC games.

i'm just at the beginning of the game, went thru some spiral sucker chase in a house. killed 5 screamers roaming or catching me offguard, and hammering them to death while they are on the ground. found some keys, solved some simple puzzles, pretty linear this game is. there are moments of tension, but yet it's pretty nice pace for a start. the loneliness roaming in Silent Hill after your prison bus crashed, wandering in the wilderness, in an abandon town, arent these all classic Silent Hill themes? so the weapons disintegrate after some use, u run around to pick up that weapon u saw earlier or simply run away, i really dont understand why many hated this game.

the human graphic render is pretty top-notched. the reflection from their body reminds me of Rage. character momvement is pretty ok, world rendering is good but nothing compared to Uncharted series. what i hate is the lading or saving that will cause your running to jerk on screen. the cut-scenes when they use the graphic versions is lame too.

simple puzzle solving reminds me of Phantasmagoria in the 90s. so far so good, this is Silent Hill, so players should expect it to be in this pace and not some fast pace action. a new player might hate or love it depending on what u are expecting, so far it fare better than Homecoming in my opinion. And then again, this is my first impression.
